Review of top 5 JS frameworks for mobile App developers and web designers

By Editorial Team on 2018-08-11

JavaScript undoubtedly is most popular coding language that is used by web designers, mobile App developer and game designers. The magic and popularity of JavaScript stems from its powerful and well-established frameworks. This article specifically focuses on five JavaScript frameworks: jQuery, Angular, Node, Express, and React.

JavaScript frameworks are developed to make the job of programmers much easier. The logic behind frameworks is simple: there is no need for re-inviting the wheel in JavaScript when someone else has already a good library of codes for a common feature or problem. Therefore, frameworks come with a set of solutions or library of codes that are normally stored in framework cores as functions, methods, or classes, so all a programmer needs to do is to call the library and method. Here are five major JavaScript frameworks:

  1. jQuery
This is one of the oldest and easiest JS frameworks that is used by millions of developers. It is mainly used for front-end development; however, it can be used with AJAX and a server side language like PHP for handling backend requests. It can also be used with JSON for doing backend coding. Lastly, there is another framework for designing hybrid and native mobile Apps called jQuery Mobile which is different than jQuery as it heavily uses HTML5.

  2. Angular
Angular is a front-end web design framework that usually used in MEAN stack by full stack developers- along with Node.JS, Express.JS, and MongoDB. You can use Angular with Ionic for designing hybrid and native mobile Apps for both Android and iOS devices.

  3. Node
It is a back-end web development framework. It can be used with SQL-based databases like MySQL or No-SQL databases like MongoDB. It is often used along with Express.JS or MEAN stack.

  4. Express
It is a back-end framework developed on top of Node.JS. Like Node it can be used by both SQL and No-SQL databases.

  5. React
React is mainly a front-end framework, yet it can be used with Node to handle backend requests. There is another framework that is used for developing native mobile Apps (for both iOS and Android) devices called React Native. It is very powerful framework for building mobile Apps.

The most common question is what JS framework to learn or when and where should I use one JS framework. The simple answer is this: 1- there are many more JS frameworks that are not covered here and. 2- Picking a framework is mostly a matter of developer preference or a project requirement. For instance, there are JS frameworks that only developed for game designers so using one specialized framework may outperform a general purpose JS framework. Lastly, it is often rare to see a JS developer who is an expert in all of 5 frameworks, so just pick one front-end and one back-end and stick to it until you master it.

It is advisable to consult with an IT career counselor to understand what career options best fits your skills. For instance, if you want to be a software engineer, learning HTML and CSS might not fit the bill. Here is an excellent article for learning more on coding and technology career roadmap. Once you know what career path you wish to pursue, you can make a plan on what, when, and how to learn. There are lots of online resources for learning coding and technology in general. For teenagers and high school students, High School Technology Services offers variety of hands-on training. For adults and professionals, Coding Bootcamps and DC Web Makers Companies offer basic to advance project-based programming and technology classes.
